PAUL McAreavey has been fined £75 after admitting driving at 70mph in a 60mph speed limit on the A1 dual carriageway.

McAreavey, 61, of Drumbo Road, Lisburn, appeared before District Judge Natasha Fitzsimons at Banbridge Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry Courthouse, on October 22.

Representing himself, McAreavey entered a guilty plea to exceeding the 60mph speed limit on April 26, 2026.

The court heard that police observed his vehicle travelling at 70mph on the A1 at around 11am. He had been offered a fixed penalty but did not take it up within the time allowed.

McAreavey was fined £75, given three penalty points and ordered to pay a £15 offender levy. He was allowed 10 weeks to pay.

The court heard that he had previous convictions, although these were described as being of some vintage.
