Belfast man jailed for 10 months for stalking and harassment

William Maxwell was sentenced to 10 months in custody for stalking, harassment, breaching a restraining order and criminal damage.
MAXWELL, 34, of Moyle Walk, Belfast, was sentenced by District Judge Natasha Fitzsimons at Banbridge Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry Courthouse, for offences committed in November 2025 and April 2026.
The court heard that Maxwell had been subject to probation supervision since January, but the judge said he had not engaged with it as well as expected.
The offences included stalking and harassment, three breaches of a restraining order and a further breach involving contact with a woman he had been prohibited from contacting. He also faced charges of criminal damage to a police cell van and a door.
Maxwell received a three-month sentence for stalking and harassment, with a further three months for three breaches of the restraining order. The additional offences attracted sentences of two months for the November breach and one month each for damaging the police van and the door. One sentence was ordered to run consecutively, bringing the total term to 10 months.
He was ordered to pay a £25 offender levy.
Maxwell was released on his own bail of £400 pending an appeal, and appeal legal aid was granted.
